Professional Summary

Dr. Melanie S. Meyer is a Lecturer in Baylor's Moody School of Education’s Professional Online Learning Unit and faculty advisor in the EdD in Learning and Organizational Change program. Dr. Meyer earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Texas at Austin. She received her Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from the University of North Texas in 2021 and was awarded the Outstanding Graduate Student in Educational Psychology. She also completed a two-year postdoctoral research fellowship at Johns Hopkins University, where she studied interventions to close opportunity and excellence gaps for students with advanced learning needs.

Dr. Meyer's research focuses on education policy, creativity, and talent development. In addition, she studies open science practices, qualitative inquiry methods, and the use of generative artificial intelligence in K-12 and higher education.

Dr. Meyer co-edited The Future of Advanced Education and Talent Development with Dr. Jonathan Plucker. She has published in Review of Educational Research, Gifted Child Quarterly, Journal of Advanced Academics, Journal for the Education of the Gifted, Psychology in the Schools, and other scholarly publications. Dr. Meyer is also active in the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC), regularly presents at their annual conference, and won the 2021 NAGC Carolyn Callahan Doctoral Student of the Year Award. She was selected for the Emerging Education Policy Scholar 2024 cohort by the Fordham Institute and the American Enterprise Institute.

Dr. Meyer was a classroom teacher in Texas public schools for over 20 years and taught middle school English, Language Arts, and Reading and high school Advanced Placement Language and Composition. She has also instructed graduate courses at the University of North Texas and Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Meyer currently advises students in Cohorts 18 and teaches Mixed Methods Research in the online EdD program. She is proud to be a Baylor bear.
